Art that brings people together

Where art unites

The Niš Church Choral Society “Branko” holds a special place in the musical and cultural life of the St Sava Centre, nurturing art through the encounters it creates and the friendships it builds. By organising piano, solo and chamber concerts, guest performances by Serbian and foreign choirs and other cultural programmes, the Society helps make the St Sava Centre a meeting place for top artists, young talents and an audience that recognises true musical values. Bringing together performers of different generations, cultures and forms of artistic expression, “Branko” gives the audience in Niš the opportunity to experience the richness of sacred, choral and instrumental music, and gives artists the opportunity to share their gift with others. In this way the St Sava Centre becomes a space where music transcends the boundaries of peoples and languages, where new acquaintances are made, long-standing friendships are nurtured and encounters are created that remain in lasting memory.

St Sava Centre

A place where music, word and spirituality meet

In the very heart of Niš, within the grounds of the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, stands the St Sava Centre - one of the city's important spiritual and cultural centres. Its construction began in 2001, and it was solemnly consecrated in 2006 with the blessing of the then Bishop of Niš, Irinej, later Serbian Patriarch. Built to be a place of spiritual gathering, education and cultural creativity, over two decades the St Sava Centre has become a recognisable meeting place for artists, clergy, scholars and lovers of culture.

Covering some 1,500 square metres, the St Sava Centre brings together spaces for various purposes, among which a special place belongs to the 400-seat gala hall, one of the best-known concert halls in Niš. Over the years it has hosted prominent Serbian and foreign artists, choral ensembles, soloists and orchestras, while numerous lectures, literary evenings and cultural gatherings have made the St Sava Centre an important part of the spiritual and artistic life of the city. Particular value is added by the Museum of Church Antiquities of the Diocese of Niš, which preserves precious testimonies of Orthodox spirituality, history and cultural heritage.

Remaining true to its spiritual mission, “Branko”, in the spirit of Christian love and hospitality, opens its doors to other artists, nurtures fellowship and enriches the cultural life of the city of Niš.
