The Great Hall of the St Sava Centre in Niš was filled to the last seat for the concert of Sergei Davidchenko, one of the most prominent young pianists of today and winner of the 17th International Tchaikovsky Competition. This exceptional musical evening, dedicated to works by great composers of the piano repertoire, was held with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan Arsenije of Niš, organised by the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko” under the patronage of the City of Niš.

Special value was added to the concert by the participation of young pianists from Niš, who were given the opportunity to present their artistic gifts to a large audience and perform on the same stage as a world-renowned artist. The evening was opened by Maksim Filipović, a pupil of the Music School in Niš, with Gabriel Pierné's Concert Étude in C minor. He was followed by Bratislav Đorđević, a student of the Faculty of Arts in Niš, who performed Sergei Prokofiev's Fourth Sonata. Their performances showed the wealth of young musical talent that Niš nurtures and develops.

The central part of the evening belonged to Sergei Davidchenko, a young Russian virtuoso whose exceptional artistic achievements have already been recognised on the world's most important musical stages. Born in 2004, Davidchenko attracted international attention by winning the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition, and his talent and achievements to date have also earned him a place on the Forbes “30 Under 30” list.

In the first part of his performance, Davidchenko led the audience into the lavish world of Frédéric Chopin's Romantic piano music, performing the Nocturne in B-flat minor, three mazurkas and the monumental Second Sonata. The richness of tonal colours, subtlety of musical expression and exceptional technical assurance revealed the full complexity and depth of Chopin's music. The second part of the concert was devoted to Sergei Prokofiev's Eighth Sonata, one of the most demanding works of the 20th-century piano repertoire, in which the young pianist displayed astonishing virtuosity, strength of musical thought and expressive maturity.

A special contribution to the artistic experience was made by the top-class C. Bechstein concert grand, whose sonic possibilities allowed the richness of the interpretation to come fully to life. The audience in Niš had the rare opportunity to experience at close quarters the art of a pianist who, at a young age, already holds a significant place on the international concert stage.

By organising this concert, the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko” once again confirmed its commitment to nurturing top-class musical art and enriching the cultural life of Niš. Besides its centuries-old mission of preserving the sacred and choral tradition, the Society continues to open the doors of the St Sava Centre to distinguished artists from Serbia and abroad, while supporting young musicians at the beginning of their artistic journey.

Such a significant musical event was made possible thanks to the support of many institutions, collaborators and friends of the arts. Special thanks go to the City of Niš, as patron of the concert, for recognising the importance of cultural programmes that bring the highest achievements of classical music closer to a wider audience. A valuable contribution to the organisation was also made by the concert agency “GRANDCONCERT” from Belgrade, whose professional cooperation was of great importance for the success of the performance. Thanks also go to the friends of the concert SCERO PRINT and Halo Travel, to the media outlets that supported the event, and to the renowned piano tuner Kristijan Bjelanović, whose expertise contributed to excellent performance conditions.

The fact that admission to the concert was free gave the event special value, allowing many music lovers to enjoy the performance of an artist of world renown.

This unforgettable musical evening remains a testimony that top-class art knows no borders, and that the meeting of established artists and young talents is the finest pledge for the future of a city's musical life. The St Sava Centre once again confirmed its place as a venue for significant cultural encounters, where tradition, youth and artistic excellence come together in a unique musical experience.
