On the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul - St Peter's Day, 12 July - the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in Niš was the place of a special spiritual and musical gathering, bringing together choirs from Serbia, Republika Srpska and Greece. Common prayer, choral chant and encounters in the spirit of Christian love marked this feast day, once again confirming the power of music to connect people and nurture brotherly relations.

The festive Liturgy was adorned by the chant of the members of the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko” and the Serbian Church Choral Society “Bogoljublje” from Doboj. The joint participation of the two choirs in the service was an expression of spiritual closeness and of belonging to the same Orthodox tradition, in which church song has held a special place for centuries. United in prayer and song, the singers contributed to the solemnity of the feast, bearing witness to the living bond that unites the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina.

Special joy was brought to this feast day by the visit of the children's choir “Rosarte” from Athens, which was in Niš for the 30th International Choir Festival. The young singers from Greece were guests of the Diocese of Niš, the Cathedral and the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko”, and after the Holy Liturgy they gave a fitting concert at the St Sava Centre, presenting a selection of sacred and secular compositions.

The choir “Rosarte” is among the most distinguished children's and youth choral ensembles in Greece. Under the direction of its founder and conductor Rozi Mastrosava, the ensemble has for decades gathered young singers, nurturing high artistic values and a love of choral music. Their performance in Niš was more than a concert - it was an opportunity for meeting, friendship and the exchange of experience, and yet another confirmation of the traditionally close spiritual and cultural ties between the Serbian and Greek peoples.

The meeting of three choirs, of different generations and musical traditions, showed that choral song knows no borders. From the joint liturgical chant of the singers from Niš and Doboj to the performance of the young guests from Athens, the day passed in joy, friendship and fellowship. In the Cathedral and the St Sava Centre, people connected by faith, culture and a love of music met once again.

For the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko”, which has nurtured the tradition of church chant and choral music for almost a century and a half, such encounters are a precious continuation of its mission. Through hospitality, common prayer and musical meetings with choirs from different parts of the world, the Society continues to build and preserve friendships that transcend space and time.

The St Peter's Day gathering in Niš thus remained another testimony that the deepest spiritual bonds are built not only with words but also with shared song - the kind that gathers, connects and lives on in people's hearts.
