ANNOUNCEMENT - FESTIVAL OF SACRED CHORAL MUSIC “MUSIC EDICT” 2025
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan Arsenije of Niš, the IX International Festival of Sacred Choral Music “Music Edict” will be held in Niš from 8 to 11 June 2025.
The festival, which is biennial and begins on the feast of Pentecost - the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, the patron feast of the Cathedral in Niš - will bring together 17 choirs from nine countries: the Russian Federation, Romania, Lebanon, Armenia, Switzerland, Poland, the United States and Serbia.
The concert programmes will be held in the complex of the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Niš, every evening from 7.30 pm. The closing part of the festival, with the blessing of His Holiness, will be held on 12 June in the Church of St Sava in Belgrade.
The festival is organised by the Orthodox Diocese of Niš, the Cathedral in Niš and the Niš Church Choral Society “Branko”. It was the Choral Society “Branko” that founded the festival in 2009, which to this day promotes sacred choral music and encourages cultural dialogue between peoples.
Performing on the first festival evening will be: the Children's and Youth Choir of the Choral Society “Branko”, “Collegium Musicum” from Belgrade, the Choir “Bogorodičin” from Zurich and the vocal group “Basovi (profundo)” from Russia.
The festival has so far hosted almost a hundred different ensembles from all corners of the world, building friendships, a wider audience and new bridges between cultures. What makes Music Edict special is its openness to all Christian confessions, because the festival's message rests on the spirit of the Edict of Milan - “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”.
Music Edict in Niš is not only a musical event, but a spiritual and cultural celebration that makes the city live in the spirit of fellowship, prayer and art.
