1 min read

The choir “Branko” from Niš appeared at the Belgrade Music Festival - the 53rd BEMUS. The Church Choral Society performed in the crypt of the Church of St Sava, conducted by Sara Cincarević. The repertoire consisted of works of sacred music.

The choir, which bears the name of the poet Branko Radičević, was founded in 1887 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Niš. For its merits it received the Order of St Sava, Third Class, a ducat from King Aleksandar Karađorđević and a society flag from King Peter II Karađorđević. Its honorary members included Stevan Mokranjac, Đorđe Binički, Aleksa Šantić and Branislav Nušić.

The ensemble was revived in the 1990s. It has performed at many prestigious festivals and events at home and abroad, as well as at the enthronement ceremonies of Patriarch Pavle and Patriarch Irinej.

The choir is led by conductor Sara Cincarević, who as a fifteen-year-old already conducted the children's choir of the Orthodox church in Đakovica. She also conducted the junior choir of the First Belgrade Choral Society, and since 1990 she has headed the choir “Branko”. Cincarević has been awarded the Order of the Holy Apostle Paul of the Metropolis of Veria, Naousa and Kampania of the Church of Greece.
